I bought a camera (gopro hero black plus) to make slow motion and stills out of a full speed video. It comes with a very simple program for doing the slow motion. That also results in very large files. I have a two minute slow motion video that is 1Mb. I have never played with video before.

My two immediate needs are:

- file size reduction

- making a mirror image video

Ideally I'm looking for a very simple program that will do this. As I get more knowledgeable I'm sure I'll want other features.

Does anybody have any software recommendations. Either Windows or Open Source for Linux.

For my video camera conversions, I've used avs4you.com for a while. It's a weird license, though: it's tied to your machine and if your machine dies, you have to beg to get -- or break down and buy -- a new license. But the price is excellent for the set of features you get.

The only video editing program I'm familiar with on Windows is Camtasia Studio (http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.html). One of it's main features is being able to record what's on your screen and it may cost more than you want to spend, but I know people who use it are very happy with it. I think it should be able to do what you want.

Adobe Premiere is another (guess I know 2), but it's part of creative cloud now so you can only rent it from Adobe.

I found cinelerra-cv (http://cinelerra.org/) for Linux. The name sounds familiar to me, but that's all I can tell you about it. The price is right.

Ya I was hunting around last night and came across cinelerra. It seems to do a lot but I haven't confirmed that it will do the mirror image. I think I'll have to just install it and see if I can find the command.
