Good Evening everyone,

So I just got quickbooks mac for my small business and the tutorial, that comes with it isn't the best. I was wondering if anyone has advice on how to learn this software. Ive checked the local colleges and they don't have any classes on it, Ive looked at craigslist for tutors, special business training centers, ebooks online, lynda.com, and the intuit endorsed dvds. Obviously, the ones like the special business training centers and intuit endorsed courses are uber expensive ($3-400+), with tutors you run the risk of hiring an axe murderer, and books have mixed reviews. Can anyone vouch for a product or method they used to learn this software? Thanks.

I use the curse and swear method myself. However, you might also try looking for books and online tutorials.

I use the Quickbooks Online (About $9/m), and they've changed the user interface for new accounts to a much cleaner and more user friendly design. I decided to get it because of this. I am still learning some of the other features, but I got the hang of it pretty quickly.

One of the forum members, Jo Ellen Peters, is a quickbooks expert. But it seems that she's been busy lately. Hopefully she'll chime in. Personally I only know how to use about 10% of everything it actually does.

Grandfathered in? Special?

I know their current basic plan is $27/mo and Plus (which is what I use) is $40/mo.

I'm jealous now. :)

What I found worked was talking to my accountant. Your accountant is going to need to take your QB file to create your tax returns, so you might as well make sure the data is the way your accountant wants it. The hardest part of QB is setting up the accounts and items, and that's where your accountant comes in. Once you have that, you're really just using it like a more-detailed checkbook ledger. After that, anything complicated -- like how to record a real estate transaction, which is pretty complex -- will be something your accountant can help you with (along with all those online tutorials and expert answers you can find using google).

Thanks everyone for the quick responses. I will investigate each one and report back with what I did and how it worked out.

Here I am, I have been very busy this year. I do have a few suggestions for finding help with QB for Mac. Use the Find-A-ProAdvisor site to look for someone in your area who supports QB for Mac. If you are on LinkedIn there is a group for QB for Mac. Also check U-tube for videos. There are lots of videos from Intuit instructors on QuickBooks. I'll also check around in some of the groups I'm in to see what training material is available for the Mac.

I don't think Intuit spends as much on the Mac version as they do the Windows version and the online version. Right now they seem to be really concentrating on the online version. Because the Mac version can only be installed on a Mac and because most of use use Windows we don't spend much time using QB for Mac. I do have clients using QB for Mac that I support with a remote connection. I recently had a need to work on a backup and not remotely, but without a Mac computer I would not have been able to. But, there is a program where you can rent a Mac. It's called Mac in Cloud. You sign up for their service (they have lots of different plans at very reasonable prices) and log on to their service and you are working on a Mac. I loved it. They even installed my copy of QB for Mac.

Interesting. I wonder if they verify addresses? Compare QuickBooks Products - Intuit (http://quickbooks.intuit.com/products)
