For the average business owner, do you find setting the advertisements tricky. I've met some folks who feel the process is too complicated and wanted to get opinions from those who have used it.

I haven't advertised on Facebook, but I did want to help keep your thread active.

I did find a couple of beginner articles about how to advertise with Facebook. I skimmed both and they seem to talk about similar things. Hopefully one or the other helps.

A Beginner’s Guide: How to advertise on Facebook (http://blog.hootsuite.com/how-to-advertise-on-facebook/)
How to Create Facebook Ads: A Step-by-Step Guide to Advertising on Facebook (http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/facebook-paid-ad-checklist)

Targeting ads in general can be challenging at first. I've run Facebook ads for different kinds of clients, products and purposes and generally it works. The thing that is most important is to determine if Facebook is the best place to advertise your specific thing. It doesn't work for everyone and everything.

To be successful with Facebook you need to understand how your target audience and people in general use it.

IMO it's not any more complicated than any other ad program, and far less complicated that Google Adwords.

I have found Facebook ads to be very successful. A great tagline and an attractive graphic go a long way.

As far as targeting, like Harold said, understanding what your actual target audience is and whether or not they are even active Facebook users is important. Facebook is a huge market, though, so I haven't had much trouble getting the ad in front of the right people.
