Google recently released a new tool that looks interesting and could potentially help you gather information about what people are searching for in your industry and in your specific location and over recent time frames.
It's called Google Insights for Search (http://www.google.com/insights/search/#) and like most Google tools it's still in beta, which means it's done, but in a web 2.0 way.
It looks like something that can help with market research and identifying trends in search phrases. Definitely worth checking out.
