Hi all,

My wife and I own a pediatric therapy practice (she is a licensed occupational therapist and specializes in pediatrics), and work with children aged zero to 18 (although it tends to max out around middle school ages). Our model is home-based care, or therapy in the child's natural environment. It has been a whirlwind year, we formed our LLC the last day of January, and have since found contract therapists, figured out how to get credentialed with insurance companies, and even successfully filed claims and actually gotten payment from the insurance companies! That was a big day for us. We both work full-time jobs, and do this in our spare time, with the goal of my wife leaving her job to run the practice and see some patients.

Have a nice day,
Play Ball

Welcome to the forum PlayBall. I think you're the first health care specialist here, though I might be forgetting someone. Sounds like it's been an exciting year. I'm sure the day you received a payment from an insurance company was one to celebrate. You're making me think back to getting paid by my very first client.

Congrats on getting started in business we'll wish you and your wife luck that before long she's working in the business full time. Thanks for joining the community.

Welcome to the forum. What a great thing to be able to do a child's therapy in their natural environment. Much less scary than a clinic or hospital setting. Good luck with your business.

Thank you both. We are just excited to be helping families out. It is tough for many parents to try to schedule therapy sessions knowing that they have to drive 30-45 minutes into downtown, have an hour of therapy, and then drive back home, especially during the school year. It saves them time and money, and Kristine, you hit the nail on the head, being at home is not scary. Plus, the therapists can get the families involved, so that they can continue to work on things during the week, rather than just for the hour that they are with a therapist.

It does present a challenge for us though, because we have to find therapists who are willing to travel, and really, we end up marketing ourselves over an area of several counties. Fortunately, we have found some really wonderful therapists.

Helping families, especially where children is concerned is a great thing. You probably have one of the more rewarding businesses of those of us here.
