I am opening a gift store with gift basket service. I will carry items like fashion jewelry, bath and body products, pet items, and will also have the over sized cupcakes and mini cakes (either for individual sale or added in a basket) You will also have that choice on the gift items, purchase with basket or seperately. To sum it up, it will be a gift store with baked goods as well. My granddaughter calls me Meme, it doesn't have to have that in it, it's just something to work with.I want a name that will work for the items individually, as well as together. I have come up with Meme's Sweet Pleasure's but I'm still undecided. My target customers are women and children. I would like something cute but catchy and that will go well with pastel colors: pink, lavendar and powder blue.

are you expensive, middle of the road or cheap?

to me Meme's sweat pleasure's sounds expensive, but gift stores are typically expensive anyways

no one can name your store for you..in the end its 100% you...some things to think about

1. do you want a name that will get you internet customers? a generic name will help this
2. your name can lead people to conclude your expensive or cheap...decide on who your customer is
3. dont pick a dumb name...i dont think a name can really hurt you unless its dumb...90% of the names are blah and dont help or hurt

id try to get the word GIFT SHOP or GIFTS into your name...it makes it clear to anyone what you sell, it tells people your a Womens store and it may help you on internet searches

just a warning....not sure if a gift store is a good idea in a recession....i keep hearing about a double dip coming and my customer base has been spending less and less from April this year on....it hasnt shown much up side in 6 months

Saw a store the other night named "Fragile" that carried china and crystal. Thought that was a great name.

Your best bet is to brainstorm with your family and friends until you come up with a name that works for you and for your market. Think about who will come to buy something from you. What words do you want them to associate with your business?

At this point in the game, to me it's more about what is available to register as a domain, than it is what you want. Don't forget to check ".me" domains. With the name "meme", you could probably find a nice domain hack using the ".me" as the last 2 letters...kind of like what I have, although it's not a true hack.

A domain hack is an unconventional domain name (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_name) that combines domain levels, especially the top-level domain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top-level_domain) (TLD), to spell out the full "name" or title of the domain.[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domain_hack#cite_note-domainhacks-0) Examples include del.icio.us (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Del.icio.us) (Delicious (http://del.icio.us/)), goo.gl (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goo.gl) (http://goo.gl/) and fold.it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fold.it) (Solve Puzzles for Science | Foldit (http://fold.it/)).

Just a question I wasn't clear on, is your shop online or a brick and mortar shop? If online, definitely focus on domain availability to narrow down your options. If brick and mortar, it might be good to start online to get an idea of what people want before you have to pay rent, stock shelves, pay staff, etc. It'd also be good to let people order online if you have a brick and mortar shop.

The way I came up with a name for my bookkeeping service was to list some adjectives that described the business and entered those words in a therasus. That's how I came up with Top Notch. I don't remember what my original word was, but it was plain and just didn't stand out. I also check domain name availability during this process. Although I don't have an online store yet, still working on it, I did the same thing for it and have already purchased the domain name. I've named it Tabitha's Trading Post.
