Hi All, I've been working for successful small businesses for over 28 years, in a variety of industries. I've finally decided to bite the bullet and do something on my own. I wish to share my years of experience by writing business articles and offering business coaching.

This is my first time joining an online forum so I was a bit hesitant at first, but I was pleasantly surprised when I made a simple post and received several responses. Looking forward to sharing with the community.

Welcome to the forum Juliet. I'm glad you didn't let your hesitancy keep you from posting. We're generally a friendly and welcoming group and all of us were where you are at one point. I can still remember back to when I first started posting in forums online. It doesn't take long before it feels as natural as anything else.

Looking forward to getting to know you and thanks for joining the community.

Where are you and what do you want to do. I spent years covering the Caribbean as a traveling sales guy so I know it well (or at least used to).

Hi Bill, thanks for asking, it's a small world after all. I am from Barbados the most easterly of the Caribbean islands, close to South America. If you've been around the Caribbean, you know there's lot's of talent but it's limited by the small size of the islands. So I'm going big by starting an on-line business. I'm thinking of freelance writing and business coaching to capitalize on my 28years of experience working with small businesses.

Admittedly I'm feeling like a small fish in a big pond. Thanks so much for making me feel welcome. Sending you lots of sunshine and warm sea breezes wherever you are. :D

Without saying the islands I don't like, Barbados is certainly one of my favorite islands. Safe, people were really nice. I've probably been there 10 times for work.

Out of curiosity, what is the internet quality out there? As soon as a VoIP phone call has the quality of a US domestic call and any internet business can be run from anywhere.

The VoIP quality is pretty good so using Skype is a breeze. It's just the bandwidth that's expensive compared to the US. We have a new provider entering the market so prices should drop dramatically soon.

Many years ago I worked with someone from Barbados. He was my immediate boss in a stock room that was my first real job. I'm not sure if that makes the world any smaller, but it's my one connection to Barbados until now. :)

LOL. Yes it counts as a connection. He must have talked your head off about the beaches and the year-round sunshine. Thanks for making me feeling welcomed. Much appreciated.

Juliet, welcome to the forum. The great thing about an online business is that the physical locations are practically irrelevant. I can communicate by email or Skype with you just as easily as I can contact someone in another office on my same floor. You have the entire world as your potential clients.

He was a good guy and he did talk a lot. I don't remember the talk being about the beaches and sunshine, but it was a looooooong time ago and it's possible I just don't remember.

Hi Juliet, welcome to the forum! It has been many years since I've visited Barbados but did enjoy it a lot...is the Oistins' fish fry still popular on Friday nights?

Wow! You know about the Oistins' fish fry, then that make you an honorary "Bajan". Yes it's gotten even better with free entertainment now included. (Sorry for the delay in responding my computer crashed). It's a small world after all.
